Singulair: Controller Medication

How Singulair Works:
Singulair reduces or prevents swelling in the asthmatic airways and the nasal lining. It is called a controller medication because it should be taken daily to prevent asthma symptoms.

How To Take Your Singulair:
Singulair comes in three forms - a pill to be swallowed, a chewable pill and granules to be sprinkled on food.

Remember:

  • Singulair works best for asthma if it is given in the evening.
  • Singulair sprinkles should not be added to liquids or sprinkled onto hot foods. Choose cold or room temperature foods like applesauce or ice cream.
  • Use the Singulair Sprinkles within 15 minutes of opening the package.
  • Do not ever stop using any medication without first checking with your GPPA healthcare provider.

Side Effects:
Possible side effects of Singulair include:

  • Headache
  • Cold Symptoms

Store all medications out of a child’s reach. If your child or someone else takes too much of any medicine, call the Georgia Poison Control Center at 1-800-282-5846.
