Giving Back

The physicians and staff of Georgia Pediatric Pulmonology Associates are committed to improving the lives of all children with breathing problems.  That commitment extends beyond the walls of our offices and the hospitals where we care for sick children.  As we reach out to our community, we find opportunities to impact the health and quality of life of children and families throughout Georgia.

Over the past few years, GPPA physicians and staff have been involved with activities such as –

  • Great Strides – a community walk, part of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s largest national fundraising event;
  • Blow the Whistle on Asthma – Sponsored by the American Lung Association, this walk raises money to help fight the asthma epidemic;
  • Atlanta Community Food Bank – fighting hunger in our community by assisting with sorting and packaging donated food items;
  • Strong Legs Run – benefiting the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Child Care Fund.

These are just some of the ways that we seek to improve the lives of children and their families in our community.

We are especially proud to highlight two programs founded by GPPA physicians – “Not One More Life” and “Miles for Cystic Fibrosis.”  Though these two organizations serve different purposes, they share the common goal of making a difference for fellow Georgians who are struggling with a chronic lung disease.

Not One More Life –

Founded by Dr. LeRoy Graham in 2001, Not One More Life, Inc, is a volunteer advocacy organization consisting of doctors, nurses, respiratory therapists, and other health educators who work together in faith-based communities to help reduce the negative impact of asthma.

Those involved with Not One More Life believe that by partnering with health ministries within communities of faith, we can empower our community through education to control asthma.  Click here to learn more about the mission and work of Not One More Life.

Miles for Cystic Fibrosis –

A long time runner, Dr. Peter Scott, and his recent running convert associate, Dr. Steven Julius, were eager to run in the inaugural ING Georgia Marathon in March, 2007.  Believing that living with cystic fibrosis is the ultimate marathon, they formed an organization to help raise CF awareness and provide hope for people touched by the chronic disease.  In its first two years, Miles for Cystic Fibrosis, and its team – 65ROSES – has fielded a total of 225 runners and walkers, who have raised $50,000 to support two vital cystic fibrosis charities, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and the Cystic Fibrosis-Reaching Out Foundation.  If you are interested in joining 65ROSES for the next ING Georgia Marathon and Half Marathon on March 29, 2009, you can find the registration information here – Remember to choose 65ROSES as your team.

We are proud of the work done by the good people of GPPA and are pleased to be helping children and their families breathe a little easier – in our offices, clinics and hospitals … and out.
