Asthma Tip of the Month
June
Don’t let the summer get your asthma
all hot and bothered.
Ozone, the main ingredient in smog, is a serious air quality problem. Your chances of being affected by ozone increase the longer you are active outdoors and the harder you are playing. To avoid unhealthy exposure to ozone, follow these tips:
Watch your local news or read the newspaper to see what the ozone levels are in your area. These are usually reported as the Air Quality Index (AQI).. The higher the number, the worse the air quality. An AQI of over 101 is unhealthy for adults and children with asthma.
Plan outdoor activities when ozone levels are lower, usually in the morning or evening.
Choose activities that don’t require as much exertion on days
when the ozone levels are the highest. |
